Tony answers:

Every day for 3 weeks. By this time the roots will be able to support the turf. Water again in a hot dry spell.

Sharon asks…

Does watering the grass during the day burn it?

I know you can water grass during the day I used to work at a golf course. Somebody says that will burn it and you can only water in morning and evening, which is right?

Tony answers:

That might be true. The water would attract sunlight.

Charles asks…

Can watering the grass during the day burn it?

I know you can water grass during the day I used to work at a golf course. Somebody says that will burn it and you can only water in morning and evening, which is right?

Tony answers:

Some say it will but I think it’s a crock. Here in Texas our Summers are filled with 100+ degree days, and I water on the worst of them. My grass always benefits from watering in the middle of the day.

Some “old wives tales” just won’t go away.

Donald asks…

Is watering grass in the evening or at night ineffective or harmful in any way?

I can’t water it early in the morning because i have to leave for work really early. We just bought this house and people before us did not take the best care of the lawn. In a few places grass is either thin or excessively dry. Is there anything i can apply to the grass to make it less dry now, in the middle of hot summer? In case it matters, we live in New Jersey.

Tony answers:

WAtering late at night can cause fungal diseases and other nasty stuff that can kill your grass as well as any plants you do it to. Best to water early evening if you can’t do it in the morning but make it so it can dry out before nightfall and you should be fine. If you can do it in the morning even for 30 minutes or so a couple of times a week so you get at least an inch per week, it would be better but if not, try to do it early enough that it can dry out some before night.

Donna asks…

does watering the grass attract a lot of birds?

how much more in compared to not watering grass? and how long birds will stick around?

which months mostly and why?

please explan what you can

thanks for answers!

Tony answers:

Watering the grass will tend to bring worms to the surface so birds are attracted to this food source, particularly in dry spells when worms are in short supply over the non- watered, dry areas.
